The Gators appear to have completed their rebuild and are once again rolling through the College Baseball World. #1 Overall, 63-6 record. They’ve got the coaching experience . Their fourth appearance in Omaha, and I expect them to take the title. This team is super well rounded, and know how to win tough series. They matchup with UMass first and I think they win that game.
The Ducks have a lot of work to do if they wanna win this group. They had a rough non conference showing, getting swept by newfound rival Ohio State, possibly the only time Oregon has ever been swept. The Ducks did bounce back and once again roll through the Pac12 Regular season and tourney titles. I think they fall second to Florida this year in this group
Welcome to Omaha, UMass. One of the fresh faces of the College World Series this year. This is a good team and shouldn’t be underestimated. They’ve been getting better year after year to get to this point. Unfortunately I think 3rd place is as far as they can go and that will be a battle with Xavier. There’s just a massive roadblock in Florida and Oregon to advance. They’ve got great bats and solid pitching, but I don’t think it’s enough.
Xavier is playing in back to back College World Series now. They followed the same path as last year. A really rough non conference against great teams, going 5-5 in non conference series. To be fair 4/5 of those were all ranked teams they lost to, as well as a solid Long Island club. They picked it up and currently are on an insane 43 game win streak. Completely shutting down the Big East. I do think that streak gets snapped game 1 vs Oregon, but I do think they will finish 3rd or 4th. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a lot of noise here.
What an amazing season by Virginia. They are seeking vengeance after getting upset in Regionals last year. Virginia basketball ring a bell? Could easily repeat that pattern for this team. They are great and will be tough to take down here. They really poured it on the ACC this season, completely dominating. Sitting at 64-5 and #2 overall. This team absolutely has the talent to take this group. I think it will be close but I do think they have the edge over tOSU.
The defending Champions are here to defend their crown. Could we see the first Back to Back since Oregon was able to do it? I think it’s definitely possible. They’re gonna have their hands full in this group though. This is a very talented group they need to battle through. Even after losing so much talent last season they’ve put together another amazing run. The B1G is a tough conference and they nearly went flawless, dropping only 2. It’s gonna take a lot to take them down. Let’s see if this group can.
In just his 3rd season, coach Lazer has turned this team into a contender, bringing them to their first CWS appearance. Consistently getting better each season. I don’t think this is the season they challenge for the title, but they definitely have some say in how this group will play out. They’ve got amazing batting, but lackluster pitching, sitting near the middle of the NCAA in ERA. After testing the transfer waters, Jamel Gallagher was excited to return and lead this team. He’s been their star player, and he needs to show up big in this group to have a fighting chance. I don’t think they can take down Virginia in Game 1, but crazier things have happened.
Last but not least we have the Crimson Tide. Another fresh face in Omaha. They came back and dominated Colorado in Games 2/3 to advance to Omaha. They placed second to Florida in the SEC, handing the Gators one of their two conference losses, so they can definitely win some hard fought matchups. They’ve gotta take on the mighty Buckeyes in their first Matchup here. I don’t see them winning that one, or their elimination game though. While they are a good team, I think they are outclassed by the other 3 teams in the group, but again it’s the CWS and anything could happen.
